LEED 2009 and LEED V3, what does it mean to me?

Hopefully, this will answer many of your questions.  If your question is not answered here, please email us and we will get back to you and possibly add your question to this page.

 

  • If you are currently a LEED AP…

§         When can I opt into the new credentialing program?  -  Enrolment (opting-in) opens in summer 2009 and ends after 2 years.  The exact date has not been announced.

§         Do I have to opt into the new credentialing program?  -  No, this is optional.  But you will remain a "LEED AP" if you do not.

§         What does it cost to opt into the new credentialing program?  -  The first $50 fee is waived, this is for the first two years.

§         Will I loose my LEED AP credential if I do not opt into the new credentialing program?  -  No, you are a LEED AP for life.

§         Will I be still able to earn 1 point for ID or IO credit 2 if I do not opt into the new credentialing program?  -  At this point in time, yes.  It is up to the USGBC to change this rule.

 

  • If you are scheduled to take the LEED AP exam for NC or CI before July 1st

§         Will I be a LEED AP or LEED AP+ after I pass the exam?  -  You will be a LEED AP.

§         What do I do after I pass the exam?  -  See your options listed above.

§         What do I do if I do not pass the exam?  -  Get ready to take the LEED Green Associate Exam.  Registration for the NC and CI exam is closed and you cannot retake the exam.

 

  • If you are not registered to take the LEED AP exam for NC or CI…

§         How do I sign up for the LEED AP exam for NC or CI?  You cannot.  Registration for the NC and CI exam is closed.

 

  • Regarding the LEED Green Associate exam…

§         What is this “LEED Green Associate” exam?  -  See the "LEED Green Associate" Candidate Handbook (click here).  This has all the information you need to get started.

§         Do I need to take this first if I want to take a LEED AP+ exam?  -  It is not necessary.  Part 1 of the LEED AP+ exams are waived if you have passed the Green Associate exam.

§         How much does this exam cost?  -  $50 application fee.  $200 exam fee ($150 for members).

§         What are the requirements to apply to take this exam?  -  See the "LEED Green Associate" Candidate Handbook (click here).  This has all the information you need to get started.

 

  • Regarding the LEED AP+ specialty exams…

§         What is this “LEED AP+” exam?  A specialty exam for one of 5 exam tracks.  See the information on the GBCI website (click here).

§         Do I need to take the LEED Green Associate exam first if I want to take a LEED AP+ exam?  -  It is not necessary.  Part 1 of the LEED AP+ exams are waived if you have passed the Green Associate exam.

§         How much does this exam cost?  -  $100 application fee.  $450 exam fee ($300 for members).

§         What are the requirements to apply to take this exam?  -  See the information on the GBCI website (click here).

 

  • If you are in the new credentialing program…

§         How often do I need to “renew” my credentials?  -  Once every two years.

§         How many hours of education do I need?  -  15 for LEED Green Associates, 30 for LEED AP+.

§         How much does it cost?  -  $50 every two years.

§         What if I don’t “renew” by credentials?  -  You will be listed as "inactive".  A grace peroid will be offered to renew.
